Golfing Tips - Sorting The Golf Swing Rhythm

I only need to look up and down the range to see that there is a giant range in distinctive swing tempos and golf style. Walking to an empty bay, I usually try to avoid positioning myself next to those whipping the ball most of the way down the range. Seeing their mammoth swings and the result of the ball flying high and long isn’t what I want, with my greatly slower swing. It is too daunting and makes me feel very inferior!

But, with a fresh correction to my swing rhythm, even though I do not seem to hit the ball as hard, by applying the correct tempo I am getting only as decent a carry as the big hitters, but as the trajectory is flatter, the roll afterwards is much longer.

So, what is the secret of the swing rhythm? Well, start it at the address position. Be certain that when you set up to the ball you are secure and steady and simply and rhythmically move the club to the top of the backswing. If you discover the club too heavy at the top of the backswing, stop merely short. Better to not make a full swing than to begin the downswing unsteady.

Once I get to the top of the backswing I put in a extremely slight pause. Long enough for it to be observed by those watching, but not much. All that I am doing is ensuring that once I have got to this location my thoughts change from making a perfect backswing to starting a good downswing.

It is a micro pause. Next to nothing. Merely long enough to once I touch the backswing position to say to myself ‘hips’.

And that is when they move left, which initiates the entire downswing routine. As my hips go left, I drop my right elbow down to my waist, with the power in the arms starting and building on the way down. But not the full power of the swing just yet. It is just when my hands get to between the 8 o’clock and the 7 o’clock positions do I let the full power of the swing develop, the club accelerate fully and the power to be unleashed. It is not a huge power difference, but enough to feel it. Only enough to give you full control of the club at the start of the downswing, before the power is applied.

That is my golf swing temp fix and it has increased my driver carry by around 30%. Wait until your hands are between 8 and 7 o’clock before you really apply the power. It may not look as dramatic, but it hits the ball merely as far and maybe a amazing deal straighter, as you are eliminating the wobble and lack of control at the start of the backswing. Any errors brought into the swing there will be magnified by the time you hit the ball.

Structured practise time is vital to improving, by this I mean that a certain amount of time should be allocated to each facet of the game.

Fifty percent of practise time should be spent working on your short game, with 50% of that being spent on putting.The left over 50% ought to be spent on short irons and working your way through every second club until you reach the Big Dog.Practise time should not be spent aimlessly pounding balls with your driver. Every shot should be struck as though there is something being played for. You should never hit a ball without a specific target in mind. You should perform a pre-shot routine and use it faithfully for every shot. A strong pre-shot routine will be your best friend when you are under the anxiety of competition.

Just bear in mind that it is an irregular rotational movement, and you learn it through practice. First of all it is important to point out that no training aid can replace regular practice as it is critical to playing better and lowering your handicap. Remember to warm-up before you start to hit balls, loosen up by swinging a couple of clubs and once you are loose then start hitting balls.

A Review of the new Matzie ASSIST Golf Swing Trainer

I have been giving golf lessons for the past fifteen years, and because of this I have been trying out golf training aids to help make my golf lessons for effective. I have tried the Leadbetter Swing Setter, the Fix A Slice, the Perfect Swing and tons of other different golf swing aids that have been both good and bad. Some have been worth the money, others have made it into the dumpster after the first couple of swings.

Today I would like to tell you all about my experiences with the Matzie ASSIST swing trainer. I have used this product for over a month now at The Villages of Terra Vista at Citrus Hills and the results have been positive. Matzie has brought a very competent product to the golf market and hopefully I will help you make the decision to try this new training aid.

The Matzie ASSIST instantaneously golf swing trainer helped me and my students with Tempo. It is astonishing that even after thirty years of playing the great game of golf that you will get rusty when you do not practice the basic ground rules of your golf swing. Because of the ASSIST’s heavy weight, it helps you remember to pause at the top of your golf swing. It reminds you to extend through the ball, and to finish with your hands held high, not yanked across the body, which usually results in either a pull-hook or a heeled slice. I had five of my students take the ASSIST home and spend 15 to 30 minutes a day with it after each lesson and they are all hitting the ball much better. Each one of the five students training with the ASSIST is now hitting the ball straighter, longer, and more accurately because of the ASSIST.

After doing some research, I have found that the ASSIST is virtually unbreakable. There are no hinges or weak points to break or crack on this golf training aid. You would have to purposely try to break this product by beating it repeatedly against a rock or perhaps running it over with a crane would work.

I first thought the molded grip was a bit “too much,” i.e. the right hand was situated slightly too much under the golf club shaft, but my own experience convinced me that my own grip was “weak” and would advantage from a position adjustment. This has proved to be true. If a purchaser does not like the grip, perhaps a pro should be consulted. In any case, if the purchaser does not want to get in to changing his or her grip, it is easy enough to have a regular grip put on!

In general I would highly recommend this golf product to any golf looking to purchase a golf swing training aid. It is an unbelievable golf swing training aid and has the ability to help cure even the most awful golf swing habits.

The Stance

There’s more benefits to being in shape and building flexibility than just getting healthier; as important as that is, when you’re in good shape, your golf game will also improve. The more strength and flexibility you have, the more control you’ll have and the better you’ll be able to keep your balance.

Perfecting Your Golf Swing

Most golfers will say the hardest part of their game is focus. The mental side of golf is one spoken of but often overlooked. Do you have a friend that golfs well on every round? Why is that? Practice, they practice. What they usually do not share is, what they are practicing at. They practice at mental toughness; golf has often been referred to as 10% Talent 90% mental. When overcoming that mental side of golf, do you try to change your equipment, the time at which you play, maybe even they guys you play with. Here are some tips that are going to help you be, the golfer, you always wanted to be.

The tempo of golf is often a distraction for golfers, you are stuck behind a slow foursome DISTRACTING or maybe the guys behind you are rushing you DISTRACTING and you feel that pressure to golf faster. Let your your tempo dictate your game! Not the tempo of the people around you. The tempo of your swing is so important; to achieve the desired results. How do I find my tempo you ask? A golfer can find their tempo by doing these simple things:

SLOW DOWN!! People often think that if they can swing faster and hit the ball harder they will get results, this is not the case at all. SLOW DOWN and focus on YOUR tempo not the tempo of the game. This is true is some instances, but, for the sake of this article we will not be discussing those concepts. No matter where you are playing or who you are playing with; the tempo you keep is is going to make you take the same back swing, have you contacting the ball the same, and allowing you to follow through the same every time. How do you practice tempo? While at the driving range your focus should only be on one club at a time. First hit 20 range balls with your driver, next hit 20 range balls with your 9 iron, Next your 3 wood and your 8 iron follow this method until you have hit every club in your bag. To perfect your back swing come to the same position every time. When you contact the ball make sure you are contacting the ball at the same rate of speed with every club. If You swing hard with woods you should swing hard with irons do not let the club size dictate you tempo. If you focus on your tempo you will see that by swinging all of your clubs the same your accuracy will improve drastically. Follow through is the same as your back swing you need to follow through the same on every shot. Your follow through will affect your accuracy a 100% of the time. When you focus on these three techniques you will find that your mental game will improve.

This is a three step process after you are done at the driving range it is time to head to the chipping green. Start by working with your wedges, then move on to you short irons. You need to use every club for at least 100 chips. Start with your wedges in the deeper grass and focus not on getting in the hole but just putting the ball on the green. If you are hitting the ball with the same tempo every time, your chipping will be more accurate. Remember chipping should be another tool in your arsenal and not the final result. Many careers have been made from singles and doubles hitters it is not just the home run hitters that decide how games turnout. If you can keep your mind focused on the task at hand you are going to chip and hit the green every time. Now take your 8I and 9I over to the short grass and work on your bump and run. Tempo is still your main focus you are just using a club for a different shot, the tempo is still the same though. Your tempo is what matters!! Imagine you are still hitting that same wedge, Change the Club not the Tempo!!

Putting Putting Putting! This is not rocket science but yet very misunderstood? We have now gone from Driving range tempo to chipping tempo to putting tempo the TEMPO does not change only the environment. What you want to practice here is the same thing! You want to work on your tempo. You are never going to change your swing for a putt. The only thing about putting that changes is the distance. Start by sinking 10 putts in a row from 1ft away after you have done this, move out to 2ft, repeat until you sink 10 in a row from 10ft away. Keep the same tempo.

The goal for these exercises is to teach your to go through the same steps every time. You are working on your tempo, your tempo can not be affected by anything because it is yours. Seeing results is going to depend on how much time you take to find your tempo!! The game is 90% mental; set a clock in your mind that only allows for the same tempo no matter when or where you are golfing. By creating this method of training for your body, your mind will have no choice but to respond by focusing on what you are trying to do.
